Artificial Intelligence (AI) workshop

NFACT is proud to be offering free, beginner-friendly AI workshops - Everyday AI for Work and Life - created for refugees, migrants, Māori, and Pacific communities as well as staff and trustees of the not-for-profit sector across New Zealand.

The workshop is delivered by culturally appropriate facilitators, and uses learning materials that are inclusive, practical, and easy to follow. It focuses on real-world skills that can support employment, learning, and daily tasks. For more information, please read these FAQs.

These workshops are run regularly, and the type of workshop and dates are released as they get confirmed. We have different workshops - in person vs online, in English vs other languages, in different locations - so we are confident that you will find the one that's right for you.

About the Workshop

Multiple languagesWe will deliver the workshop in a number of languages including Dari / Persian, English, Spanish, and Arabic. Keep checking here, because we may offer other languages at a later date.

The materialThe material will be delivered using a mix of short readings, videos, hands-on activities and group discussions. We will use simple and easy-to-understand language to explain things

EligibilityThis workshop is offered to migrants, refugees, Māori and Pacific communities as well as staff and trustees of the not-for-profit sector across New Zealand.

In person or onlineThe workshop can be delivered online if you are not able to make it in person, allowing you to ask the trainer questions.

Across New ZealandThere will be a few workshops delivered in the main cities around New Zealand on selected dates. Keep checking our website for updates.

Free of chargeThanks to our funders, these workshops are offered at no charge. All we ask for is your commitment.

Workshop Modules

In this five-module workshop, participants build the essential skills needed to use AI with confidence.

For some groups, we will offer Module 0 - which covers foundational digital skills and online safety - ensuring participants can engage confidently and securely in digital spaces. This is an optional module for groups needing extra support with the tools.

Starting with the basics, participants will explore powerful productivity tools, learn how to communicate effectively with AI through prompts, understand responsible AI practices, and discover how to stay up-to-date in a rapidly evolving field.

Module Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will learn the different types of AI, what the difference is between traditional AI and generative AI, the different tool to improve specific tasks in daily life (research, writing, summarising), how to master prompts for effective output, the bias and ethics of AI, and continuous learning in AI in specific tasks relevant to you.
